Dates. Event dates are Dr. Nilesh Oak's, from his published Ramayana timeline and his notes on the war's end: Ravana falls on Chaitra Amavasya, 6 Jan 12208 BCE; Rama reaches Bharadvaja's ashram on Vaishakha Shukla 5, 12 Jan; he meets Bharata on Shukla 6, Moon in Pushya, 13 Jan. "Angad's mission" and "Agni pariksha" are added here and placed inside his war window. Full evidence for each date is in his books.
Calendar. All dates are in the Julian calendar extended into the past, as Dr. Oak gives them, not the Gregorian.
The epoch. Dr. Oak names 2 verses that bound the age of the story on their own: Aranya 16.12 (Gita Press), the Hemanta verse, gives 11,500 to 17,500 BCE; Yuddha 4.48, the pole-star line, gives 10,000 to 14,000 BCE.
Today's calendar. Where Valmiki names the lunar day, this page finds the same lunar day in 2026 (Shukla and Krishna paksha, amanta months). Where he does not, the today column is left empty rather than guessed.
Season then. Each date is converted to "the same season in today's calendar" from the Sun's position, using Swiss Ephemeris long-range files. At 12,000 BCE, Earth-rotation models differ by days, so lunar-day checks with different software can land a few days apart.
Another reading. A separate scan of Rama's birth verses alone, not part of Dr. Oak's work, finds 2 later near-matches, around 6266 and 4498 BCE: Chaitra Shukla Navami, Jupiter beside the Moon, and 4 of the 5 exalted planets (Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn; the Sun sits just short of Mesha). They do not fit the season observations Dr. Oak relies on, and are shown at Level 5 where relevant.
Other views. Some scholars dispute the 12209 BCE dating and read the season lines as poetry, not observation. See a critique, and Dr. Oak's timeline summary.
